This wall hanging was made in Tuscany, Italy, during a quilting class taught by Esterita Austin. The subject is The Defeated Boxer, a 4th-2nd century B.C. bronze sculpture found at the National Gallery in Rome, Italy.
I used strictly batiks to find just the right blend of colors for the face (all of it is fused), then embellished it with a little fabric paint, then added a stitched sketch of the Coliseum, for reference, and some free-motion quilting.
